After Thoughts: Riva Greenberg
I have been a fan of Riva and her positive attitude for as long as I can remember. Right from the start she struck me with her connection to the emotional aspect of living with diabetes. I was looking forward to chatting with her on the show.
The conversation didn’t disappoint. We covered a lot of ground, talking about everything from her life changes at 48-years old, the three wonderful books she’s authored, and some of her upcoming projects.
One of the biggest messages she delivered was to get in and see a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Your doctor should be able to refer you. There is also a tool on the American Association of Diabetes Educators site to help you find one in your area.
Riva has delivered three great books:
- Diabetes Do’s & How To’s
- 50 Diabetes Myths That Can Ruin Your Life: And the 50 Diabetes Truths That Can Save It
- The ABC’s of Loving Yourself With Diabetes
Her next project is going to be around flourishing with diabetes (not just coping). I love the sounds of that, and can’t wait to see what she comes up with.
She also mentioned some work she’s done for health care providers on QuantiaMD.com, a network for practicing physicians, called “Ask the Patient”. She’s produced a handful of short presentations about how to work with their diabetes patients on positive behavior change.
You can connect with Riva on Twitter at @DiabetesMyths, her websites; Diabetes By Design or Diabetes Stories, and her column on Huffington Post.
It was a great show, and the hour went quickly, as usual. I hope you’ll share some time and listen to it.
