Hasan Shah, Grassroots Advocacy Manager at JDRF

In August 2006, Hasan joined JDRF’s Government Relation team to support & implement grassroots efforts to ensure continued federal funding of type 1 diabetes research. Being on the JDRF team allowed Hasan to grow significantly. Since his time on the team he’s gained significant knowledge in managing advocacy/fund-raising databases such as Democracy Direct provided by DDC and Constituent 360 by Convio. He oversaw the transition of the JDRF’s advocacy database from DDC to Convio and has been the lead in using Convio’s advocacy tool to maximize online and on the ground efforts by JDRF volunteers.

Most notably, he’s also the staff lead for JDRF’s marquee advocacy event in DC, Children’s Congress. Hasan has not only made sure that the event accomplished its goals but also maintained budget discipline. Doing more with less, each time the event has been held since his oversight began. In addition to Children’s Congress, he’s also been the staff lead on JDRF’s nine month campaign, Promise to Remember Me, where type 1 advocates organize meeting with their Members of Congress during even numbered years. During the 2010 Promise efforts, all previous goals accomplished by the campaign in past years were surpassed. Hasan continues to support the current Promise Campaign, ensuring that it continues to stay on pace for another record breaking year. Having had the opportunity to help grow and accomplish the goals of all JDRF Advocacy programs, Hasan’s been given the additional challenge of developing social media strategy so it effectively integrates into all type 1 advocacy efforts.
