Afterthoughts DSMA Live ‘Rents: Scott Benner of Arden’s Day
Last night Bennet and I had Scott Benner who writes “Arden’s Day” as our guest on DSMA Live: Parents Talk.
We talked about the recent news from Insulet – the new Pods have been FDA approved!! Scott’s daughter, Arden and my son, Caleb are both long time Podders and we’re excited about the new system. Insulet assures us that the rollout will be near seamless for existing users. For those interested in starting with the OmniPod, reps from Insulet say there is no reason to wait for the distribution of the new system – you can start Podding now and the transition will be equally seamless for you. A point worthy to note that many parents are curious about – IOB:
“The PDM status screen now always shows details about your current insulin on board (IOB). Correction and meal boluses are used to calculate your IOB when the suggested bolus calculator is on.”

Back to Scott and Arden.
Scott shared with us his new approach to care at school where he works with Arden directly throughout the school day. Through the use of texting and the occasional cell phone call, Scott and Arden have been able to manage her diabetes while at school without nurse intervention. Although the nursing staff is prepared to assist if needed, there hasn’t been that need yet. Arden no longer spends time away from class.
We talked about Scott’s soon to be released book “Life is Short: Laundry is Eternal”. We even had a couple of giveaways – thanks Scott! Visit Scott’s blog for more info and keep an eye out for another chance to win his book through an upcoming DSMA Blog Carnival.
We had a fun and informative hour. If you follow Scott’s blog, this wouldn’t surprise you. If you don’t, we invite you to listen in and get to know him a little better.
Thanks for listening and joining in the fun!
