After Thoughts: Penny Starr-Ashton

Penny and her family

Because she’s a parent of a child with diabetes, I had a feeling Penny was pretty awesome (all d-parents are).  But I didn’t realize just how special she was until hearing her story on the show.

Serving for 26 years in a school for the deaf seems to have imparted a really special gift on Penny, which shines through in listening to her story about raising her family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Penny a while back and was moved by her drive to keep Grace healthy both physically and psychologically.  It’s a tough balancing act for all of us, and I imagine it’s only harder from the parents perspective.

We got a call from Kelly Kunik, which was a great surprise!  I’m totally jealous that Kelly gets to hang out with Penny and Grace so often, and it was pretty evident that Grace is a pretty special young lady.

I hope you’ll share some time with us and listen to the show!
