After Thoughts: Elizabeth Edelman
I had a really fun chat with Elizabeth tonight! It was a moving story to hear about Elizabeth visiting her aunt who had been touched by diabetes complications, then being diagnosed herself just shortly after, and having to come to terms with what that meant for her.
We heard about her diagnosis, which included an important college graduation presentation that she pulled off with a blood sugar higher than who knows what. She talked about going on a backpacking trip across Europe just months after her diagnosis, which, quite frankly, still sounds terrifying to me after more than 30 years with diabetes.
Elizabeth talked about meeting David and how her desire for peer connection led to Diabetes Daily, which is today one of the largest diabetes community sites around.
I loved hearing about her background in cooking, and how she’s grown into that passion and is using it to help educate people about food and diabetes.
Elizabeth’s passion for helping people live well with diabetes came through her telling her story. I hope you’ll share an hour with us to check it out.
