Welcome to the newest feature of DSMA, the monthly DSMA Blog Carnival. This is your chance to explore a recent DSMA question in more than 140 characters. At the beginning of each month, the blog carnival topic will be announced here on the DSMA blog. Join the carnival by writing a post about the topic of the month on your blog and sharing a link to your entry in the comments section. Once the month has ended, we’ll present a Blog Carnival Round-Up and feature a few posts that shouldn’t be missed!
Ready to get started? Let’s get right to this month’s topic:
“The most awesome thing I have done in spite of diabetes is . . . . “
(taken from the Fill-in-the-blanks chat on January 26th)
Yes, it’s time to look at the positive and boast about something great you’ve done. Don’t be shy – share it with us! Once your post is written, come back here and put a link to it in the comments section of this post so we can all check it out. Also, please add the following sentence to the bottom of your Blog Carnival Post:
“This post is my February entry in the DSMA Blog Carnival. If you’d like to participate too, you can get all of the information at http://diabetessocmed.com/2011/introducing-the-dsma-blog-carnival/“

I’ve tracked leopards, white water rafted through rainforests and trekked the Great Wall of China inspite of my broken pancreas, but what’s more amazing is the stuff it’s given me the opportunity to do…http://www.shootuporputup.co.uk/2011/02/if-i-had-a-working-pancreas/

The most awesome thing I’ve ever done in spite of my diabetes? Everything! And for 51 years!
Diagnosed in early 1960, I Raced sailboats in college, taught school (and took 100 6th graders to camp each year), had two wonderful daughters and as any PWD knows, a husband of 30 years who should be sainted. I was a forest fire lookout, camped, hiked and took my own kids on tons of ” field trips.” I write good letters, like to ride my bike, draw, paint, sing and play terrible violin. I’ve lived on a farm, in the mountain snow, on a boat and in a highrise. I have a strong interest in science and medicine thanks to my d. I freely educate anyone who I feel needs it about diabetes, even a few who’d rather skip it. I still get po’d when it takes me so long go get out the door with all of my d stuff. I consider diabetes about as limiting as being a woman. It isn’t.
The best? The hundreds of students I taught, my family and friends.
Thank you Cherise!
And here’s a salute to my new friends here.
51 years of everything, despite diabetes? Pretty awesome!!! Thanks so much for sharing with us.
Thank you, Michelle! I am amazed at all of the things you’ve done and continue to do for PWD’s despite diabetes.
