Listen to DSMA Live with Cliff, 9 PM EST (Live Feed)

Cliff Scherb based in New York Metro area is a coach, cyclist, active triathlete and President of TriStar Athlete. Cliff developed his passion for triathlon while attending business school at Wake Forest University. “It seemed to satisfy my need to compete, not just against others, but to strive for personal bests.” Following graduation Cliff moved to Manhattan and began a career as a pharmaceutical representative; however his tri-habit was hard to kick. “I spent my days racing around the city, dogging traffic, rain or shine, seeing hundreds of doctors. It was like training for a triathlon but tough on a suit and tie.” So Cliff traded his suit for a tri top and bottom, and he hasn’t looked back.

Cliff is a 6 time USAT All american triathlete whom has competed all across the USA, and internationally, gaining broad experience ranging from Olympic distance events to the Ironman (with a personal record time of 9hr 7min.) He has raced in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Cliff has also raced the 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater, Florida three times (2006, 2008, 2010). Cliff is a USAT Level (I) coach, and has worked on active hydration strategies with the scientists of the Gatorade Institute.

Always striving for ways to enhance his personal fitness and shorten race times, Cliff has a philosophy of continuous improvement. He is in it for the long run and his approach to coaching is simple; give the best coaching experience possible by understanding the aspirations of each individual, arming students with knowledge, and then motivating them to stretch to their full potential.

Cliff also races as an elite type 1 diabetic athlete. His Ironman Florida (9:07) race time is the second fastest ever as a diabetic. He also holds the record at the Half Ironman World Championships in Clearwater Florida at (4:16min).

Cliff has also been the coach of the Team Type 1 triathlon team, racing for them in the 2009 season.
