Q1. What was your life like with diabetes before and after you found the diabetes online community?
- I definitely didn’t talk to many D’s. I know a few, but when we did hang out we rarely actually talked about our Diabetes.
Q2. Do you prefer online support vs offline or both? and why?
- I like online because I can turn off my computer and forget about stuff for a while. Offline is good too though, such as from my endo and the local D clinic or whatever.
Q3. Has Social Media helped you deal with diabetes a little better? if so, in what ways?
- I don’t think so. I think I’ve always had a pretty good handle on my own Diabetes and dealing with growing up with it.
Q4. Would you refer a newly diagnosed PWD or parent of a child with diabetes to the online community? if so, why or why not?
- I did refer a friend of a friend who is pregnant to Juvenation, but I don’t know many D’s in real life who would be interested in the online forums or twitter.
Q4.5. What insight/advice would you give to a newly dx PWD or parent of CWD navigating for diabetes info online?
- Stick to verified information. There’s a LOT of information out there that isn’t correct, even from other D’s at times, and it won’t help you in the end. Look for Association websites such as Canadian Diabetes Association, JDRF and American Diabetes Association, etc.
Q5. What have you learned from the diabetes online community?
- That we have all been trained differently on how to view our Diabetes and our life with Diabetes.
